Our Mission SeaStar Project serves abused, neglected and abandoned children in the foster care system of Washington State. Children who are placed in foster care often feel abandoned, rejected, and suffer crippled self-esteem impacting all areas of their lives. Our goal is to create positive memories for these children who have had much of the joy and freedom of childhood stolen from them. We want to give them hope and let them know there are adults who care. Every child in foster care is there because of something an adult did to them or did not do for them: Sexual violation: incest, rape, molestation Physical assault: beatings, burns, tied up, locked in closets Neglect: abandonment, parent(s) in prison or drug rehabilitation. An “utter sense of loneliness” was the way James Daly, president of Focus on the Family, described his feelings as a teenager in the foster care system during a recent radio broadcast. Mary, age 12, told us: "It's scary being a foster kid because you don't know what you're getting into. Some foster parents are nice, but some are mean." Mary has had 14 placements. Throughout the year we are able to provide enrichment activities to these abused and neglected children; things a normal, biological child takes for granted. Visit Stories In additional to enrichment grants for foster kids, our vision is to build a campground for the Royal Family Kids Camp (RFKC) program. For 15 years, we have conducted a week-long therapeutic resident camp for abused children based on the RFKC curriculum. www.campseastar.org |
